Ferdinand Hérold - Overture to Zampa
Hildur Guðnadóttir - From the Other Place
Trevor Jones - The Last of the Mohicans
Johannes Brahms - Symphony No. 2
A celebration of pioneering composers and music sees the S.O. present Brahms’ iconic Symphony No. 2 alongside music by Academy Award winner Hildur Guðnadóttir, film composers Randy Edelman and Trevor Jones and French composer Ferdinand Hérold.
The first half opens with an exciting overture by Hérold to his opera Zampa, an opera all about pirates and love (yes!) whose overture is still popular today. The orchestra then presents a piece by Hildur Guðnadóttir in a style the orchestra has never performed — a graphic score! The orchestra will be improvising and composing in front of your eyes during From the Other Place, a short piece depicting serene and static harmonies. We change gears to end the first half with the energetic and famous soundtrack to Edelman’s and Jones’ The Last of the Mohicans.
The second half of the concert features the colossal Symphony No. 2 in D major by Johannes Brahms — a pastoral piece similar to Beethoven’s 6th Symphony and a celebration of Classical and Romantic forms of music.
This concert is sponsored by House Theatre with support from Pinnacle Financial Partners and is part of the Subscription Series which is sponsored by Edgeworth Capital Group.
In person shows are available for Friday Night and Saturday Matinee, and a livestream is available for Saturday Matinee as well.
