Step into worlds of magic, adventure, romance, and imagination! Fairytale Frontier explores the musical landscapes of beloved fairytales and stories, where enchanted castles, storybook heroes, and dancing spirits all come vividly to life through music.

The concert opens with the elegant and melodic waltz from “Sleeping Beauty” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The fairytale magic continues with music from Alan Menken’s soundtrack to Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” These songs and melodies are still as unforgettable as they were when the film first premiered in the 1990s, as they helped to create one of the most beloved animated films of all time. Truly, music and a story that make it a tale as old as time!

Audiences will also experience the whimsical energy of Elena Kats-Chernin’s Dance of the Paper Umbrellas, a delicate and playful dance that imagines new stories and characters. Contrast that with the lush and sweeping melodies of Augusta Holmès’s La Nuit et L’Amour (“The Night and Love”), a perfect musical nod to the Valentine’s Day weekend.

The program concludes with selections from Engelbert Humperdinck’s beloved opera Hansel and Gretel, bringing the famous Brothers Grimm tale to life with rich orchestral color, warmth, humor, and wonder. 

This concert also features the winner of the Summerville Orchestra’s annual Concerto Competition - a shining moment for one of the orchestra’s own rising stars, and a reminder that every great musical journey begins with imagination and opportunity.
